Bes is primarily the god of Childbirth, but he is also seen as a god of Female Adornments, Fertility, Luck, Marriage, Music, and War. He was associated with Horus, Ra, and Temu.

In art, Bes typically appears as a dwarf-man with grotesque features. When he is associated with Horus, Bes has a single lock of hair on the side of his head.
