Cailleach Bheur

The Cailleach Bheur lives in the Highlands of Scotland, and is the bringer of winter. She carries a staff with her that freezes whatever it touches, and prevents flowers from ever growing on that spot during the winter months (Samhain through Beltane). During the summer months (Beltane through Samhain) disappears, either turned into a stone, a sea serpent, or into a beautiful maiden. She is the protector of all wild animals, streams, and wells. She has been known to milk deer. The plants special to Cailleach Bheur are gorse and holly. In some ways she is similar to Baba Yaga.

Cailleach Bheur looks like a very ugly old woman, and wears the tartan of an unknown clan.

Cailleach Bheur means "Blue Hag", "Blue Grandmother", and "Blue Veiled One". She is also called Cally Berry. Cailleach Bheur is also spelled Cailleach Beare.
