Erato is one of the nine Muses, the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. Mt. Parnassus is sacred to them. Erato is the muse of love poetry, erotic poetry, and marriage songs. Her name means "love" in Greek. Erato loves to play the lyre, and goes hunting with her bow. She is often portrayed as having myrtle flowers and roses in her hair. It was customary for lovers to invoke Erato in April.
