Hippogriffs (also spelled Hippogryphs) were creatures born from the union of a mare and a Griffin. They have the head and front legs of an eagle, and the back end and feet of a horse. Hippogriffs are only found in the highest of the Northern mountain regions prefering ice and snow to anything else.

Hippogriffs were thought in heraldic times to be a symbol of the sun.
