Mahes is a god of darkness, sacred places, storms, war, and wind. He is the son of Bastet and possibly Ra, and is associated with Nefertem, Horus, and Ra. Mahes' main cult center was in Leontopolis.

In art Mahes appears as a lion or lion-headed man wearing a headdress with a lotus blossom, uraeus, or solar disc. He is usually holding a knife or lotus blossoms, and may be devouring an enemy or a prisoner.
