Nun is the consort of Naunet, and one of the eight primeval deities who formed the Ogdoad. He helped in the creation of the world, according to writings found in Hermopolis. He is the personification of the primeval waters that existed at the beginning of time.

In art, Nun can appear as a frog-headed man. He more commonly appears as a bearded half submerged in water and supporting the gods who came from his body, or supporting a boat.
