Ops is the goddess of the harvest, abundance, plenty, and fertility. She is the mother of Jupiter. She is thought to be a wife of Saturn or of Consus. Her festivals were held on August 25th and December 19th. She was also worshipped during the Vulcanalia. Romans invoked Ops by saying a prayer while touching the earth. Ops is often identified with Rhea and Juno. In art Ops appears as a woman sitting on a throne and holding a sceptre, a globe, and/or and sheaf of wheat. |
