Picus is the god of manure, prophecy, war, marriage, and of agriculture. He is the son of Saturn, the father of Faunus, and husband of either Canens or Pomona. He has powers of prophecy, and is often associated with Mars. Picus was the first king of Latinum.

In art and literature Picus often appears as a woodpecker, the form he was said to have been changed in to by Circe because he would not leave his wife to be with her.
