Picus is the god of manure, marriage, and of agriculture. He is the son of Saturn, the father of Faunus, and husband of either Canens or Pomona. He has powers of prophecy, and is often associated with Mars.

In art and literature Picus often appears as a woodpecker, the form he was said to have been changed in to by Circe.
