Swanhild was the beautiful daughter of Sigurd and Gudrun who was accused and convicted of adultery with her stepson, Randwer, the son of her husband, Ermenrich. Randwer was hanged, and Swanhild was trampled to death by horses, who would not step on her until she was covered with a sheet to hide her beauty.
