Alberich is the Dwarven king in Germanic Mythology. He was the guardian of the Nibelung treasure, and owner of the Tarnhelm, a helmet which made its wearer invisible. He was also the maker and owner of Andvaranaut, the ring made from the Rhinegold. Alberich put a curse on the ring, a curse that would affect anyone who wore the ring:
"To no lord let it bring again, and let murderer ever follow it until I hold it again in my hand."

Alberich was also known as Andvari.
