The Creation of the World

In the beginning, there was Chaos. Out of Chaos came Gaia (the earth), Nyx (the night), and Hemera (the day). Gaia soon gave birth to Oranos (the heavens) and Pontus (the seas). With Oranos she had the Titans, the Cyclops, and the Hecatoncheires. All of Gaia and Oranos' children lived in fear of their father, and thus lived safely in their mother's womb. Gaia soon grew tired of her children living in side of her, so she asked for them to kill their father. Only one child was brave enough to do the deed: Cronos, the youngest of the titans. Gaia gave her son a sickle, and with it, he cut his father into little tiny bits. Where ever Oranos' blood hit Gaia came new dieties, including the Erinyes, the Giants, and the Nymphs. Now free, Gaia chose Pontus as her new husband, and together they lived happily. With his father out of the way, Cronos was now free to rule the universe.
